Welcome to the Penny Conservation Charity

Modern Slavery Statement

Effective Date: 27 June 2025

This statement is made voluntarily by Penny Conservation, a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity No. 1209973) with its registered office at Beck Fold, Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere, LA23 1HF, UK. It outlines our ongoing commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our organisation and across any activities we engage in.

1. Our Structure and Activities

Penny Conservation is a UK-based non-profit charity dedicated to supporting and promoting environmental conservation projects. Our activities include project funding, public education, community outreach, and partnership-building with individuals, sponsors, and local organisations. We operate primarily in the UK and work with limited, carefully selected partners abroad.

We do not manufacture goods, operate in high-risk industries, or maintain a complex supply chain. However, we remain vigilant to the potential risks of modern slavery in the charitable and development sectors.

2. Our Commitment

We are committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct. Penny Conservation has zero tolerance for any form of modern slavery, including:

  • Forced labour
  • Human trafficking
  • Child labour
  • Debt bondage
  • Exploitative or unsafe working conditions

3. Our Supply Chain and Partners

Though our operations are small-scale, we do occasionally work with external suppliers, freelancers, and partners for goods or services such as:

  • Office and IT equipment
  • Web and communications services
  • Printing and promotional materials

We strive to ensure that any third-party we work with shares our commitment to human rights and ethical labour practices.

4. Due Diligence and Risk Management

While we are not currently required to conduct formal audits under the Modern Slavery Act, we take steps to minimise risk by:

  • Engaging only with trusted suppliers and partners
  • Seeking declarations of compliance where relevant
  • Reviewing public or charity-sector red flags around ethics or labour practices

As we grow, we are committed to strengthening this due diligence process.

5. Policies and Training

We currently uphold the following internal practices:

  • Clear expectations around ethical conduct in staff and trustee handbooks
  • A transparent complaints and whistleblowing procedure
  • Direct contact and oversight of all personnel and volunteers

As our charity develops, we plan to introduce or formalise further policies related to safeguarding, ethical procurement, and partner selection.

6. Reporting Concerns

Anyone connected with Penny Conservation — whether staff, volunteer, partner, or beneficiary — is encouraged to report any concerns about unethical or exploitative behaviour. All reports will be treated seriously and confidentially.
